Birdwatching 101 Minimize

Join in America's fastest growing outdoor activity with bird expert, Jamie Cameron. Learn how to identify the birds of western North Carolina and have fun doing it. Over the course of five, 1-hour programs, Jamie will lead discussions on choosing binoculars, field guides and other birding equipment, as well as the easy steps to identifying birds, birds of the BlackMountain area throughout the season and suggestions on how to make your backyard a bird sanctuary. The last session will be a guided bird hike with Jamie, scheduled to coincide with peak fall migration.

         Dates: Wednesdays, Sept. 8-Oct. 6
         Time: 7:00-8:00pm

Introduction to Permaculture Minimize

This course will focus on the main principles and methodologies used in permaculture design, a sustainable land use design based on ecological and biological principles that often uses patterns that occur in nature. Workshops will vary depending on the weather and interest of participants. At 6:30pm there will be a pot-luck style meet and greet before these sessions. Bring your favorite dish, and your own dishes and utensils.
 
Date: August 31 (and continuing the final Tuesday of each month)

Location: CarverCommunity Center
Cost: This course is offered on a sliding scale from $5-25 per participant and is based on ability, desire, and willingness to pay.

Home Repair Course Minimize

This is a 4-week class for homeowners who want to learn to do their own home repairs. Each class consists of handouts, as well as hands-on demonstrations of sheetrock repair.

            Dates: Wednesdays, Oct. 6-27

                        Week 1: Emergency Response

                        Week 2: Electricity and Plumbing Basics

                        Week 3: Fixing Windows, Doors, and Gutters

                        Week 4: Painting Tips, Question and Answer Session

            Time: 7:00pm

            Location: CarverCommunity Center

            Fee: $45/series. Pre-registration recommended.

Jazzercise Minimize

 

Seven Classes a Week!

Monday/Wednesday 4:50-5:50pm & 6:00-7:00

Tuesday / Thursday 6:00-7:00pm

Saturdays 9:30-10:30am

 

$35 a month with $30 joining fee (eft) or $85 eight week pass with joining fee.

*Take $20 off the joining fee if you are a student or teacher.  Bring your I.D. when you come to class!


Please wear comfortable clothes and bring water & a towel / mat. Classes are held at the Carver Community Center.   Call Renee at 231-6880 with questions.

 These aerobic classes are fun and great for all fitness levels. All classes are to new music and routines change weekly.

CPR/First Aid Certification Course Minimize

Do you want to learn the skills that can save lives? Black Mountain Recreation & Parks is now offering a one-day CPR/First Aid Certification Course taught by an American Heart Association-certified instructor. You will become certified for two years in both CPR and First Aid.

When: Saturday, September 18, 9:00am-2pm

Where: Carver Center

Fee: $42/person. Includes course fee, instruction booklet, DVD for later review, and certification cards.
